BBC WM to host new festival of sport
As part of BBC WM’s largest radio and social media campaign, Get Moving!, the radio station is staging a new festival of sport in Birmingham. The Get Moving! campaign aims to encourage everyone in the West Midlands to move more, take up a new sport and get active. The West Midlands is one of the worst areas for inactivity, and has some of the highest levels of child obesity in the UK.
The BBC WM Community Games, part of the campaign, will take place at Alexander Stadium between 29 and 30 June. The weekend will showcase 50 different sports and activities, offering free taster sessions to the public.
Sarah Harness, editor of BBC WM, said: “It’s an important time for the West Midlands, with the Commonwealth Games arriving in the region in 2022, so we want to start working on our legacy now, and BBC WM Get Moving! will be a part of this. Our presenters will be doing their own fitness challenges so watch this space and keep listening to find out more!”
